Crime Mapping & Analysis Program

Crime Analysis Unit Developer Kit

NOTE - the Crime Analysis Unit Developer Kit is ONLY available for download (see links below).

Welcome to the Crime Analysis Unit Developer Kit download page.

This collection of documents, publications, examples, and tools has been researched, collected, and made publicly available by the Crime Mapping & Analysis Program (CMAP) with the professional crime and intelligence analyst in mind. These products have been selected to meet the needs of crime analysts at every level of sophistication and at every point in their analytical unit development, from planning a unit from scratch to increasing your analytical firepower, through expanding the profession with internships.

These tools are all provided by the developers free of charge as a service to the law enforcement community; most of these articles, publications, and software applications are readily available from the Internet. Unfortunately, very few analysts are aware of the large number of useful products already at their fingertips. CMAP’s CAU Developer’s Kit is designed to meet the needs of these analysts by showcasing examples, providing insightful guidance in the form of manuals and publications, and meeting software needs with freely-available tools.

Neither the Crime Mapping & Analysis Program (CMAP), the National Law Enforcement & Corrections Technology Center for the Rocky Mountain region (NLECTC-RM), the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), nor the US Department of Justice (USDOJ) in any way endorses, warranties, or guaranties the fitness of these products for any particular purpose. These products do not constitute a complete list of resources, nor does their presence in this compilation suggest any preference on the part of any of the parties involved in creating the CAU Developer’s Kit. These items have been selected by CMAP staff members to meet the needs expressed by members of the Law Enforcement Analysis community in a variety of forums, including the LEANALYST and CRIMEMAP email discussion lists, the NIJ’s Technology Working Groups (Intelligence-Led Policing, Crime Mapping, and others), CMAP training classes, IACA discussion, and other forums. These tools are not intended to replace or supersede any existing tools in the user’s possession; rather, they are intended to expose crime analysts, supervisors, and other police professionals to important resources, information and functionality of which they may not previously have been aware.
